    Event description

Would you like to learn how to tailor-make your own apple trees and then go home with new trees to plant?
Grafting is surprisingly simple, particularly with apple trees. The rootstock you use decides the size of the tree. Dwarfing, semi-dwarf, semi-standard and standard are the size benchmarks for the different rootstock sizes, with the standard being the largest and dwarfing being the smallest.

We have ordered 2 rootstocks for each participant, MM 26 (dwarfing) and MM 793 (standard) at a cost of approx. $ 6.00 each, the costs are included in the ticket fee.
A range of eating, cooking and also some cider apple scions (e.g. Belle de Boskoop, Monty's Surprise, Golden Russett, and Irish Peace) will be available to graft with.

This workshop will go ahead rain or shine as we have an indoor facility to work in.

You may wish to bring something to share for afternoon tea, coffee and tea will be provided.

Be sure to bring the following with you to the workshop:
    a) sharp knife (or grafting tool)

    b) sharp secateurs

    c) large containers or pots with enough wet sand or soil to keep your grafted apple treelets moist until you can plant them out.

We will finish with a walk around the orchard where you will see many fruit trees we grafted 15 years ago on M 793.

Looking forward to seeing you there!
